DIY Chalkboard

I was at a church rummage sale a few weeks ago and found this print on canvas for only a dollar.

Initially, I was going to paint the canvas white create my own multi medium mural. But then…something more functional came to mind: a chalkboard! Inspired by a friend, I went to Home Depot and picked up some spray paint primer and chalkboard paint.

First I spray painted primer. After everything was primed, I then painted the canvas with chalkboard paint. The frame got a couple layers of wall paint (durable!).

And the finished product! 🙂

There are SO many possibilities for a huuuge chalkboard!:

-Menu board for the kitchen.
-To-do list for the office.
-Calendar to keep track of the fam’s activities.
-Focal point on mantle (change quote with the seasons.)
…and many more ideas!

I decided to put the chalkboard in a bedroom. I can change the drawing or quote anytime – because it’s just chalk! 🙂

Cost of this DIY chalkboard:
Print – $1
Paint – $8

Adventures with Vellum

Vellum is such a fun medium – it’s the thickness of paper but transparent. Its uses can range from envelopes, to votive holder wrappers to wedding invitations.

For this card I used foam stamps and acrylic paint to make these bold letters. This “welcome” card was for my parents’ foreign exchange student, Sona, and she was excited to receive it! 🙂

Sisters’ Bond with Creativity & Each Other

{Background Info: My sister draws, paints, makes jewelry, sews and is fully embracing the world of photography. I draw, paint, interior design, occasional sewing and jewelry making.  I am currently exploring card making to a depth further than ever. Creativity runs in the fam…I consider my Grandma one of my key inspirations.}

The other day I texted Laura and said, “Okay, I need a title/username for my etsy shop and blog. It hasta be catchy but also convey what I do. Any ideas?” She pondered whilst I sent “corny” username ideas to her (she said my ideas were corny, btw).  Few minutes later she came up with (sarahphrased): “How about PiecefulJoy? You piece cards together and it brings you and others joy.”

“FANTASTIC!” I got excited. My enthusiasm increased when I discovered that the username was available at both sites.

Thus, I must give my sister credit for the name of my blog and etsy shop.

Thank you, Laura!

As mentioned before, she has a love for photography. Her photos get more and more amazing through time. Take a look:

She has a blog as well:
